I recommend an infused cigar or a mild cigar. This will allow your mouth to get used to the taste and feel of tobacco on your lips and on your palate. My personal recommendation - Acid Drew Estate, Tatiana, Baccarat. CAO Gold and or Undercrown Shade.

Wedge cutters are immensely popular for thinner cigars; however, cigars with guillotine cutters work better when cigars have a larger gauge as they slice through it more evenly. Wedge cutters can also be imprecise with large cigars, so there is risk damaging a cigar. My personal recommendation - Guillotine cutter

Cutters come in straight cut, v-cut, or punch. Straight cut is a linear cut across the cap of the cigar to create a large area for smoke to travel through. V-cut creates a deep "V" shaped cut into the cap of the cigar. Punch creates a small circle about a quarter-inch in diameter into the cap of the cigar. My personal recommendation - V-Cut

"Box-pressed" or "square-pressed" is when cigars are literally pressed into the box so the box pressure creates a perfectly square shape.

You only need to shave off from 1/16" to 1/8" of an inch, no more. The idea is to keep the cap intact.
